Parent Support Group

The Rochester Center for Children offers an education and support group for parents, guardians, and caregivers of kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The group offers guidance for navigating unique situations and challenges that may arise in the home, at school or in the community. The group is led by Stephanie Johnson, Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Additionally, group members have the opportunity to learn from each other by sharing their experiences. We strive to create a welcoming environment where families feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their concerns without judgment. Participants are not required to have a child enrolled in our program to attend.  The group meets on the last Thursday of each month during the school year. Meetings are held from 6-7:30pm and include a short presentation as well as parent led discussion. Topics each month will be announced via email and are determined by the needs or interests of the group. Examples include: reducing problem behavior, promoting positive interactions between siblings, encouraging independence with activities of daily living, increasing communication skills, navigating your child’s IEP, promoting success in the classroom, etc.

We are excited to announce we are once again offering childcare on a limited basis (advanced registration required)in order to make the group more accessible for all family members.  Childcare will be provided by therapists from the center alongside trained volunteers. The fee for childcare is $10 for the first child and $5 for additional children in the same family.
